    Announcing: INTACH’s Heritage Relief and Restoration Fund 

    I am spreading this message from INTACH. Please get in touch with the organisation directly if you are interested.

    In the wake of recent Uttarakhand disaster, the Indian National Trust for Art and Cultural Heritage has set up a Heritage Relief and Restoration Fund to ensure immediate action whenever a crisis situation arises. This is the first time any Organization is setting up a fund targeting at the rescue of heritage.

    You may kindly apprise all the members of your Chapter and all others who wish to contribute to the fund. The Cheques’/drafts are to be sent on the name of ‘INTACH Heritage Relief and Restoration Fund’.

    Donations to INTACH are exempt from income tax to the extent of 50 % of the donation under Section 80-G of the Income Tax Act, based on the certificate given to the Donor by INTACH Central Office.

    This prize is awarded every second year by the Organization of World Heritage Cities (OWHC) to a city that is a member in good standing of the OWHC, and that has distinguished itself by an achievement in terms of conservation, enhancement or management of property inscribed on the World Heritage List, and that is located on its territory.

    To participate in this competition, the cities that are members in good standing of the OWHC must have paid annually their contribution for the last three years. A city that has been on UNESCO’s World Heritage List for less than three years may also register for this international competition, provided it has paid its contribution annually to the OWHC since its was recognized by the UNESCO.

    The purpose of the prize is to recognize and to reward the achievement of a member city of the OWHC in terms of conservation, enhancement, or management of property inscribed on the World Heritage List, and that is located on the territory of the candidate city.

    The achievement must have been implemented during the last two years directly by the candidate city or by a person or an organization supported, directed or influenced by the candidate city. If the achievement was not implemented directly by the candidate city, the latter’s participation must have been significant in the implementation.

    Candidacy File
    The candidacy file must be sent by email to the secretariat of the OWHC (secretariat@ovpm.org). The font used must be Arial 10 points. The file must contain the following documents:

    • an executive summary of no more than five pages that presents the achievement that would deserve to obtain the Jean-Paul-L’Allier Prize for Heritage. This summary must be signed by the mayor. It may be accompanied by no more than five images that can be sent by Internet only.
    • the form entitled “Jean-Paul-L’Allier Prize for Heritage – 2013 Edition” duly completed. You may download the form by clicking here.

    If the candidacy file submitted does not meet the requirements, the candidacy will be considered ineligible for the Jean-Paul-L’Allier Prize for Heritage. No additional document will be analyzed by the jury.

    Prize to the winning city
    The mayor or his or her representative will be the guest of honour of the OWHC at the Congress: the transportation, lodging, and meal expenses as well as the registration fees to the Congress will be assumed by the OWHC.

    An honorary certificate will be awarded to the mayor of the winning city or to his or her representative at the opening ceremony of the World Congress of the OWHC that will be held in Oaxaca, Mexico, from November 19 to 22, 2013.

    The winning city will receive financial support from the OWHC of up to $3,000 CAN for the design and installation of an honorary plaque marking the obtainment of the Jean-Paul-L’Allier Prize for Heritage.

    The winning city and its project will benefit from worldwide promotion on the Web site of the OWHC.

    An interview with the mayor of the winning city will be broadcast on the Web Site of the OWHC.

    Presentation of the cities that have participated in the Jean-Paul-L’Allier Prize for Heritage at the World Congress of the OWHC
    The cities will be invited to present the realization they submitted to obtain the Jean-Paul-L’Allier Prize for Heritage at the World Congress of the OWHC, which will be held in Oaxaca, Mexico, from November 19 to 22, 2013.

    General Provisions
    The candidate cities that do not receive the prize may re-submit their candidacy in the following years, provided that the realization having for object the conservation, enhancement or management of property inscribed on the World Heritage List is not the same.

    There is no limit as to the number of consecutive years for which a city may be a candidate.

    The OWHC reserves the right not to award the prize for a given year.

    Timetable
    Deadline set for the cities to submit their candidacy to the OWHC:

    August 31, 2013

    September and October 2013: Study of the candidacies by the international jury

    November 19, 2013: Award of the Jean-Paul-L’Allier Prize for Heritage at the opening ceremony of the 12th World Congress of the OWHC in Oaxaca, Mexico.

    The International Graduate School: Heritage Studies at Cottbus University is offering under the direction of the UNESCO Chair in Heritage Studies its second International Summer Academy Cottbus: Understanding Heritage (ISAC) under the title “The Theoretical Understanding of Sustainability in Heritage Studies and its Corresponding Disciplines”. The programme is organised in cooperation with the German Commission for UNESCO.

    Objectives

    The aim is to give young researchers in Heritage Studies the opportunity to deepentheir theoretical understanding of sustainability and to identify innovative protectionand use strategies for the different facets of heritage.

    Target Group

    The summer academy aims at international Master’s studentsPh.D. students andjunior researchers in heritage studies or related fields. During the two-week programme, participants will receive a comprehensive insight into the research on the most relevant and innovative disciplinary and interdisciplinary constructions of heritage in the light of sustainability.

    How to apply?

    Deadline for applications is April 7, 2013.

    ISAC offers 15 scholarships provided by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).

    In order to apply please submit the following documents:

    1. Application form 
    2. Curriculum Vitae (1 page)
    3. Letter of Motivation indicating the chosen disciplinary focus (1 page)
    4. Abstract of your research project in progress, i.e. your in-class presentation
