The International Graduate School: Heritage Studies at Cottbus University is offering under the direction of the UNESCO Chair in Heritage Studies its second International Summer Academy Cottbus: Understanding Heritage (ISAC) under the title “The Theoretical Understanding of Sustainability in Heritage Studies and its Corresponding Disciplines”. The programme is organised in cooperation with the German Commission for UNESCO.
The aim is to give young researchers in Heritage Studies the opportunity to deepentheir theoretical understanding of sustainability and to identify innovative protectionand use strategies for the different facets of heritage.
The summer academy aims at international Master’s students, Ph.D. students andjunior researchers in heritage studies or related fields. During the two-week programme, participants will receive a comprehensive insight into the research on the most relevant and innovative disciplinary and interdisciplinary constructions of heritage in the light of sustainability.
How to apply?
Deadline for applications is April 7, 2013.
ISAC offers 15 scholarships provided by the German Academic Exchange Service (DAAD).
In order to apply please submit the following documents:
1. Application form
2. Curriculum Vitae (1 page)
3. Letter of Motivation indicating the chosen disciplinary focus (1 page)
4. Abstract of your research project in progress, i.e. your in-class presentation
5. Proof of enrolment as a Master’s or Ph.D. student

The short-listed candidates will be invited to submit a 2,500 words essay on their in-class presentation by April 28, 2013. Based on the quality of the papers the advisory board of the Summer Academy will select the definite participants and award up to 15 scholarships.
